With the weekend’s rainy weather having washed out the majority of Monday’s games, the Lady Wildcats were one of the two area teams that were actually able to play Monday.

Despite being out-hit 14-10 in yesterday evening’s contest against Boyd-Buchanan, Polk County (16-12) was able to come away with the 7-4 softball win.

After holding the visitors scoreless in the top of the first, the Lady Wildcats got on the board first with a run by Kaitlyn Williams. Having been advanced by a sacrifice hit by Lydia Triplett, Sydney Sloan’s sing was enough to bring Williams in.

The Lady Buccaneers answered back with a run of their own in the second inning.

Ashlynn Johnson was able to get to second base on a passed ball and then a hit by Williams advanced her to third. Another passed ball gave Johnson the opportunity to run home.

In the bottom of the third, the Lady Wildcats added another two runs to the scoreboard.

Sloan got things started by driving a hit deep into left field for a double. Lily Cuzzort was walked to first. Another passed ball by the Lady Buccaneers got Sloan to third.

Hannah Triplett’s single drove Sloan in. Cuzzort was unable to get home, but Hannah Triplett would manage to get the second run of the inning.

For the next two innings both teams would be held scoreless. Boyd-Buchanan added another run in the top of the sixth, while Polk County answered with three more runs of their own.

Lydia Triplett’s double brought both Ashlynn Johnson and Williams in. A sacrifice bunt from Sloan followed by a Lady Buccaneer error brought Lydia Triplett in for the Lady Wildcats’ final run of the game.

Boyd-Buchanan went on to score two more runs in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to put them over Polk County.

The Lady Wildcats will travel to Lady Buccaneer territory this evening to take on Boyd-Buchanan at 5:30 p.m.
