He was born in Salzburg, Austria. Prior to his illness, he was a restaurant manager.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he held the calling of High Priest Group Leader.
He was predeceased by his grandmother, Mattie Lee Crawford; parents: Margaret “Nike” Francis Crawford and James Edward “Smitty” Smith, Sr.; aunt, Alice Josephine “Josie” Crawford; and brother, Jay Frederick Smith.
James is survived by his spouse, Sharon LuAnn Smith, of Cleveland; one daughter, Jessica (Scott) Sampson, of Omaha, Neb.; five sons: Jaron Smith of Minneapolis, Minn.; Joshua Smith of Omaha; Jordan (Kimberly) Smith of Papillion, Neb., Jay Smith of West Burlington, Ind.; Jonathan Smith of Sioux City, Iowa.; two stepdaughters: Anna (D.J.) Gunter of Spring City and Jaime Epperson, Cleveland; one stepson, Raymond Epperson, III, Cleveland; 11 grandchildren: Adriana, Alexandria, Victoria, Damian, Sierra, Tre’, Tyler, Isaiah, Makayla and two blessings yet to arrive; two brothers: Yoaman (Barbara) Smith, Sutherland, Neb.; Joseph Smith, Salt Lake City, Utah.; one sister, Sekai (Khpra) Senworset, Seattle, Wash.; two sisters-in-law: Debra (Dennis) Frazier of Leon, Okla.; Karma (Gary) Seaman, Fairbanks, Alaska; Uncle Reginald “Sonny” Suddeth, Nashville; his cousins, Andrea and Ronald Moore, Carley Whaley, and Adrian Kirkpatrick, all of Cleveland; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The body may be viewed today, April 8, 2013, after 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Patton Funeral Home Chapel, 265 Fair St. S.E., Cleveland TN. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, April 9, 2013, 7 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4200 Pryor Road N.E., Cleveland TN. Graveside service will be a private affair on Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013.
