James R. Hurst, 80, resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday evening, Feb. 2, 2013, in a local health care facility.

He was a member of the North Cleveland Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served his country in the Korean War. He retired from Bowater at 40 years of service. For 30 years he was very active in the church bus ministry. He was a lifetime member of the Cleveland Men’s Bowling Association. He was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Jo Hurst; father, James Henry Hurst; mother, Katherine Kibble; stepfather, Walter Bedwell; and one brother, Melvin Bedwell.

He is survived by three children and their spouses: Kathy Jean and Ed Motley of Arkansas, Michael and Teresa Hurst of Cleveland and Timothy R. and Gail Hurst; grandchildren: Jodi Motley, Matthew and Mark Motley, Kelli Hurst, Jami Spencer, Miranda Harper, Rebekah Hurst, T. J. Hurst and Tyler Hurst; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Johnson of Cleveland; one nephew; and four nieces.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. at North Cleveland Baptist Church with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the North Cleveland Baptist Church.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the North Cleveland Baptist Church.
