Paintings by Durinda Cheek and photography by Cam Busch will be featured in the Inspired Destinations exhibit through April 30 at Rarity Bay Community Activities Center Gallery in Vonore.

The gallery is located at 150 Rarity Bay Parkway.

Two artists who have traveled together abroad over the years to Tuscany and Venice, Italy, and Provence, Paris and Giverny in France, have created works for an exhibit of Inspired Destinations.

Cheek leads workshops abroad for artists every year to paint and enjoy the scenery. Busch joined the groups for a week in Tuscany and Florence, Italy, and again in the Provence region of France (with time in Paris, of course). In October, the two partnered to travel to the Northern Lakes region of Italy on Lake Garda and then a week in Venice. The resulting 33 works show the different approaches to the same areas with photography and painting.

“Cam and I enjoy visiting different regions in Europe. She gets around and takes a lot of photographs, including close-ups of nature or architecture while I paint or sketch in one place mainly for an hour or two. Sometimes I am not sure what she’s shooting, if it’s a close-up of the texture on a building or a rusty ornate light fixture. She composes her photographs the way an artist composes a painting, looking for good shapes and lines and lead-in elements. I have long been an admirer of her work. It is so interesting to see her point of view of the same thing that I chose to paint,” Cheek said.

Using the field sketches, Cheek paints larger oil and watercolor paintings in her studio. “I am attracted to the European style of architecture and also to the rural landscape,” she said. “I have watercolor paintings and oils in the exhibit. I love being able to share an experience of traveling and painting with others every year. We’ve had some exciting adventures — riding the high speed water taxis in Venice, hiking through an ochre mine in France, and visiting the asylum where Van Gogh spent a year, to name a few. It is spending time in these locales that serves as my inspiration to paint.”

Busch is a native of Knoxville and a graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She has been an exhibiting artist and photographer for 40 years. She is president of the Tennessee Art Therapy Association and owner of Art Therapy Consults and Studio, in Chattanooga.

Cheek is a professional artist working in watercolors and oils. She is a signature member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society, Georgia Watercolor Society and Louisiana Watercolor Society. Her other memberships include the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, Women Painters of the Southeast, Plein Air Florida and Plein Air Georgia. She teaches painting at Townsend Atelier, Chattanooga, along with workshops throughout the southeast and yearly in Europe.

Both artists are represented in The Gallery, Red Bank, and are former members of In-Town Gallery, Chattanooga. Cheek also exhibits locally in Reflections Gallery, Chattanooga, and the Ringgold (Ga.) Art & Frame Gallery. Her online gallery is
