A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Leonard and Dollie Elkins Bright. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Womac Bright; son, Ronald “Ronnie” Bright; and brother, Gene Bright.
He was a carpenter, having built several houses in the area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of Woodmen of the World and a member of Clear Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Bridwell Bright, of Riceville; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Charles Goodale of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; stepdaughter, Barbara Bacon and her husband, Allen, of Athens; son and two daughters-in-law: Ricky “Rick” and Denise Bright of Athens and Mae Bright of Knoxville; stepsons: Ken Moses and his wife, Yvonne, of Kinesville, Texas. Dave Moses and his wife, Sherry, of Englewood; nine grandchildren: five stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Maggie Roberts of Athens, Linda and Ross Morrow of Riceville, Dean Lowe of Riceville, Virginia and Earl Roberts of Decatur; brothers and sisters-in-law: Calvin and Carolyn Bright of Riceville and Gary and Teresa Bright of Athens
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. today, July, 11, 2012, at Clear Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Jimmy Lewis and the Revs. Dink Harris and Kenneth Elkins officiating.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in McMinn Memory Gardens with military honors.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday school class at Clear Springs Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. today at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Clear Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Building Fund, 653 County Road 100, Athens TN 37303.
