Tragedy occurred on Georgetown Road Monday as a lone occupant of a Mercedes SUV lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree.

Bradley County Sheriff’s Office officials named Randy Lewis Geren, 67, of Decatur, as the victim of the single-vehicle crash that occurred just after noon.

According to Bob Gault, media relations coordinator for BCSO, Geren was traveling toward Cleveland just west of the intersection of White Oak Valley Road.

Capt. W.G. Campbell, whose Traffic Unit is in charge of the investigation, said initial evidence revealed the SUV being driven by Geren left the roadway in a curve, struck a tree, overturned and then caught fire.

Campbell said the investigation is ongoing into the cause of the crash.

Geren became Bradley County’s eighth traffic-related fatality in 2013.

Responding to the scene were members of Bradley County Fire-Rescue and the Bradley County Emergency Medical Service.

Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
