Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officers are in charge of a boat crash that took the life of a Georgetown man.

According to officer Ben Davis, the crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. Sunday on the Hiwassee River.

Dale Rose, 65, of Georgetown, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical service personnel, according to Davis.

Davis and other officers returned to the scene Monday to continue their investigation into the surrounding events that might have contributed to the crash. No additional information has been released from the investigation.

The accident occurred near the Highway 58 Boat Dock.

Other boaters on the river had sought shelter during a torrential thunderstorm.

Rose was reportedly driving a bass boat when his vessel collided with a larger boat piloted by Josh Smith, 35, of Cleveland.

Smith and his three passengers were not injured during the collision, according to Davis.

The heavy rainstorm and darkness are believed to be factors in the crash.

Investigation is continuing.
