With the unexpected arrival of a much-farther-north reaching Winter Storm Leon, a flurry of game changes have been made by the Bradley County and Cleveland City Schools.

All basketball games on Tuesday, which included Cleveland at East Hamilton, Walker Valley at Soddy-Daisy and Bradley Central at Ooltewah, were postponed as the snow began to accumulate.

The cancellation of Hamilton County schools for the remainder of the week resulted in even more changes to the sports calendar.

The District 5-AAA basketball tournament is fast approaching, and area teams have had to make many changes in order to get all of their regular season district games in before Feb. 12.

Tonight, the only high school game in the area that has not changed is the District 5-AA meeting of longtime rivals McMinn Central at Polk County, with the girls’ game beginning at 6 p.m.

The TSSAA Class AAA State Wrestling Duals also begin today in Franklin.

In their attempt to become the back-to-back state championships in the duals, Cleveland takes on Hendersonville Beech at 4:30 p.m.

The Cleveland/Beech winner and the Knox Halls/Bartlett winner will battle in the state quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m.

The only other area team to qualify for the State Duals was Soddy-Daisy.

The Trojans take on Heritage at 4:30 p.m., and the winner of that match and the Collierville/Brentwood winner battle in the state quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, consolation round matches begin at 10 a.m., the third-place match is at 6 p.m. and the championship match takes place at 8 p.m.

Cleveland State baseball will get its season started off with a doubleheader at home today against Roane State, with a 1 p.m. opening pitch.

Both the Lee University baseball and softball team begin their seasons on Saturday.

The Flames host Emmanuel in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m., while the Lady Flames will be in Savannah, Ga., for the Armstrong Atlantic Tournament.

The Lady Flames take on Tusculum at 12:30 p.m. and Armstrong Atlantic at 2:30 p.m.

Bradley Central will be back in action on Saturday, but has cancelled its trip to Hamilton Heights and will instead be hosting Soddy-Daisy in district matchups, with the Bearettes getting things started at 5 p.m. and the Bears playing at 6:30 p.m.

Bradley’s make-up trip to Ooltewah has been tentatively rescheduled for Feb. 10.

In another 5-AAA pairing, Cleveland will travel to East Hamilton Saturday evening for Tuesday’s rescheduled game.

The Lady Raiders and Lady Hurricanes get things started at 6 p.m., with the Raiders and Hurricanes following at 7:30 p.m.

The cross-county rivalry game between Cleveland and Walker Valley has been rescheduled for Feb. 10.

Cleveland’s game at Rhea County, which was originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been moved to Wednesday.

Walker Valley will travel to Soddy-Daisy on Monday evening to make up Tuesday’s postponed game.
