The Bradley County Fire and Rescue Department dedicated its Truck No. 12 in memory of Roy Smith in a special ceremony Friday.
Smith’s widow, Willodyne, and his son, Van, were in attendance to accept the honor for the late county commissioner.
Smith served in the commission representing the Sixth District from Sept. 1, 1982 until he resigned in December 2009 due to ill health.
His wife filled the vacancy his resignation left until the end of his term.
Smith passed away Aug. 31, 2010.
He also was a member of the Flint Springs Ruritan Club and a former cattle farmer.
Smith spent much of his term in office serving on the commission’s road committee.
Bradly County Mayor D. Gary Davis called Smith “a dedicated public servant who never waivered from his principles.”
