The award is given in recognition of the faculty member who exhibits the most heart for students as evidenced by frequent interaction and positive involvement with them outside of the classroom.
The award is named in memory of Dr. Janet Rahamut, a veteran English professor whose tragic death in 2000 shocked the campus and left a tremendous void in the collective heart of the Lee family. The award was created to honor Rahamut’s dedication to her students, in and out of the classroom.
Iosia joined the Department of Health, Exercise Science and Secondary Education in the fall of 2007. He came to Lee from Baylor University where he had been a post-doctoral fellow in the Exercise Sport Nutrition Laboratory and also taught graduate and undergraduate courses
Prior to pursuing his Ph.D., Iosia spent nine years as a strength and conditioning coach at the NCAA Division I-A level. He had coaching stops at the University of Southern Mississippi, Auburn University, Tulane University, and spent the last year of his doctorate studies as an intern in the Crimson Tide weight room.
Iosia is a member and certified collegiate strength and conditioning coach through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and National Strength Conditioning Coaches Association.
He is also a member of American College of Sports Medicine.
The recipient of this award is chosen by a student committee chaired by the Student Leadership Council chair and sponsored by the vice president for Student Development.
