The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center. The ensemble is directed by assistant professor of music Alan Wyatt.
The program will feature Brown, a jazz pianist, composer, recording artist, and currently an associate professor of jazz at the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK), on several of his compositions arranged for large jazz ensemble by Vance Thompson, a co-worker of Brown’s at UTK. Also featured during the program will be special adjunct lecturer of music at Lee, Paula Archer Wyatt on vocals.
Brown’s career began in 1981 when he joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers that included the young brothers Wynton and Branford Marsalis. From 1983-85 he joined the faculty at Berklee College of Music and later in 1988 joined the music faculty at UTK.
In addition to performing extensively throughout the world, Brown is a prolific composer. His composition, “Insane Asylum,” was featured on Wynton Marsalis’ album “J Mood” and won a Grammy award for the category Best Jazz Instrumental Album.
The jazz ensemble concert is free of charge and open to the public.
