He was preceded in death by his father, John Vance Staples.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Debbie Staples, of McDonald; two sons: Christopher Lee Staples and wife, Tracy, of Tunnel Hill, Ga., and William Lee Staples of Cleveland; one daughter, Amber Leann Welch and husband, Robert, of McDonald; four grandchildren: Ayden Lee Staples, Evan William Staples, Aislyn Hope Welch and Abbie Brianne Welch; two brothers: David T. Staples of Rock Hill, S.C.; and Donald B. Staples of Marietta, Ga.; and mother-in-law, Geraldine Hice of McDonald.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
