Dalton Pike construction worker hit by vehicle

A construction worker was struck by a southbound vehicle on State Route 60, Dalton Pike, Friday morning according to reports from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

THP Trooper Trey Seymour investigated the accident. According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 7:50 a.m near McGrady Drive. Benjamin Nelson, 55, was reportedly driving the 2007 Ford F-150 that hit construction worker Gregory Plemmons, 37, from behind.

Reports say Plemmons was in the southbound lane of SR60 with his back to traffic. Plemmons was reportedly waving a bulldozer through on the northbound side. The construction zone speed limit is 35 miles per hour.

According to witnesses, Plemmons was wearing a hard hat and a construction jacket. Nelson is reportedly being cited with failure to exercise due care. Plemmons was transported by Life Force to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted by THP.
