Sale Creek came to town Monday night for basketball action against Cleveland Christian. In the girls’ game, Sale Creek took the early lead and pulled away with a decisive 53-33 win. The Crusaders played solid basketball late in the boys’ game and held on for the 68-42 win.
“A loss is never easy to accept, but I do appreciate the intensity the ladies played with tonight. Our defense continues to improve,” said coach Thompson after the loss.
Carrie Claypoole was the top scorer with 14 points and three rebounds. Acacia Thompson had nine points and 10 rebounds and Jennifer Corbitt added nine points and five rebounds. Ashley Miller also added a point.
Xavier Jordan had his 10th straight double-double of the season scoring 33 points and pulling down 30 rebounds in the Crusaders’ victory. Naaman Mowery had a big game with 15 points and six rebounds. Matthew Chambless had 10 points, four assists and eight rebounds. Bo Martin had seven points and four assists. Matthew Mathis scored three points and handed out three assists.
Coach Larry Davis was excited after the game, saying “This was definitely a good win, heading in to the last week of SCAA conference play and the tournament. Everyone played well, especially the bench.”
Both Crusader teams finish regular season play Friday night hosting Knoxville Christian at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
