Susan Calfee Elliott was officially suspended Monday, according to Bradley County Director of Schools Johnny McDaniel.
McDaniel said the school system is waiting on the “outcome of the criminal matter” before determining further action.
McDaniel said Elliott was not working with the school system during the summer. Elliott notified the Hopewell principal of the arrest on July 24, and met with the director of schools on Monday.
Elliott had been preparing for her first year as a second-grade teacher. She has previously taught fourth and fifth grades.
A replacement for Elliott will cover her class for the duration of the suspension.
Elliott was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault on July 23.
According to reports, on that day Elliott allegedly hit her boyfriend Greg Grammer with a baseball bat and wooden paddle at her home. The couple had been drinking. In addition, police reports state the woman told her 3-year-old child to bite the man.
Elliott was released after appearing in Bradley County General Sessions Court and posting bond July 24, according to information from the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.
