County budget changes approved

When Bradley County commissioners were not debating a change to the office’s election requirements at their Monday meeting, they addressed a few other requests.

The Commission unanimously voted to approve its consent agenda, which included requests to make budgetary changes and get rid of vehicles that were no longer needed.

Bradley County Fire-Rescue asked to apply $1,027 it had received in insurance money to the fund for purchasing fire and rescue equipment and to allow $11,625 from the public safety fund to be used for general purposes.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office asked the Commission to add $9,101 back into the budget after it had received money from an insurance claim.

The Bradley County Emergency Management Agency asked to get rid of two trailers, and the Sheriff’s Office wanted to get rid of three vehicles that had been acquired with money from its drug fund. The county road department wanted to get rid of a van.

Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis also recognized several longtime county employees. Six people had just reached the milestone of working with the county for 20 years, and two had hit the 30-year mark.

“We don’t recognize county employees as much as we ought,” Davis said, adding he wanted to take the time to do so more often in the future.

James D. Smith, Shaunda Efaw, Anthony Cochran, Carl Shrewsbury, Gwen Beavers and Randy King had each been with the county for 20 years, he said.

Brenda Gaylor and Allan Walsh were recognized for each having had 30 years of employment.

He recognized four of those employees who had been able to attend the meeting and gave them certificates before the Commission moved on to other matters.

“We appreciate your service to Bradley County,” Davis said to each of them.
