Cody D. Fortner, 25, a resident of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010.
At the time of his death, he worked with Georgetown Grounds Management and worked there for many years. He was a member of the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department, Station No. 4 where he received commendations including Rookie Fire Fighter of the Year in 2003 and Firefighter of the Year in 2009. He loved serving with the Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Shirley Kennedy; paternal grandfather, Carl W. Fortner; and his stepgrandfather, Wayne Tinsley.
He loved to hunt and fish and attended the Gamble Road Baptist Church and the Victory House of Prayer.
Survivors include his wife, Star Fortner; mother, Barbara Tinsley and her husband, Gale, both of Georgetown, father, Carl E. Fortner of Birchwood; brother, Shane Fortner of Birchwood; maternal grandmother, Mary Wallace; paternal grandmother, Robbie Fortner, all of Birchwood; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Laura and Charles Hale of Georgetown; stepsister, Mitzi Cottrell of Cleveland; his stepgrandmother, Mary Tinsley of Charleston; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, from the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Lloyd Harvill and the Rev. David Evans officiating.
Interment will follow in the McInturf Cemetery with Timmy Hyde, Joe Leamon, Brian Sterns, Charlie Willoughby, Will Leamon and Blaine Arwood serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
