Lois Glass opened the program with the devotion.
After the luncheon, Deborah Flower, program chairman, introduced Lindsey Smith, the drama teacher, and the Improv Team from Bradley Central High School. Under the direction of Smith, the group is learning the creative art of improvisation — literally making up or ad libbing as the scene progresses.
To demonstrate, the group asked the teachers for topics and were asked to present a scene of the “The Worst Teacher” and “The Worst Driver.” A variety of other skits demonstrating further improvisational techniques were presented by the talented group.
During the business portion of the meeting, copies of the treasurer’s report were presented to each member prepared by Joy Yates, treasurer, who was unable to be present.
Lois Glass asked all to remember the family of Leon Austin and the contribution he made to education. President Schriver announced the Cleveland Bradley County Retired Teacher’s scholarship committee will be reviewing applicants and the selection will be announced at the August meeting.
The nominating committee will present a slate of officers for the 2013-15 term at the June meeting.
Flower announced that Marcia Kling, “Miss Marcia” of Chattanooga TV fame, will be the guest speaker for the June meeting.
The next scheduled meeting will be June 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Westwood Baptist Church.
The local association meets bimonthly, and membership is open to any retired teacher.
