Cleveland Christian Lady Crusaders win nail-biter

The Cleveland Christian School Lady Crusaders rebounded on night two of the volleyball season to win an exciting match against Dogwood Christian Academy of Tunnel Hill, Ga. The match came down to the last point of game five, with the Lady Crusaders pulling ahead to win 15-13.

CCS took games two and four with wins of 25-20 and 25-16, while falling in games one and three by margins of 22-25 and 12-25.

Acacia Thompson once again led the offense with four kills and two aces. Eighth-grader Hope Nix contributed with seven assists. Emily Sexton had a dig and four aces. Jennifer Corbitt and Savannah Morgan had a great match at the net once again with a block apiece. Corbitt had two kills and seven aces.

“We took a huge step forward in our young season tonight with a very close win against a Southern Christian Athletic Association opponent. We will celebrate this win and get back to work Thursday,” said coach John Mathis after the event.

Cleveland Christian will travel to Bryant, Ala., Friday evening to face the Mountain View Lions.
