This letter is to make the public aware of a growing problem facing school transportation departments and of the support we have received from the Cleveland Police Department.
According to statistics, the number of vehicles running school bus stop arms has doubled in the past 10 years. We feel fortunate that there have been no fatalities or serious injuries involving a student being hit by a car with the driver using their cellphone.
We have recently sought help from Chief Wes Snyder and the Cleveland Police Department at some of the more habitual areas of concern. They have been most helpful and have written numerous citations to offenders. Hopefully, the increased presence of law enforcement has had a positive effect on the number of violators.
Our mission is safely transport children to school and return them home in the afternoon. Our thanks to the Cleveland Police Department for their assistance in helping us do so.
