Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church will hold the Eugene Butler Choral Music Festival April 27 and 28.

The choirs of Wesley Memorial UMC and First UMC will combine to present a concert of choral anthems by the renowned composer Eugene Butler.

On Saturday the choirs will rehearse with Dr. Butler, and on Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m., they will present a concert of Butler anthems which he will conduct.

The public is cordially invited to the Sunday concert, and while there is no entrance fee, a donation is appreciated to offset the costs associated with the festival.

Butler has enjoyed a long and illustrious career as a composer, conductor and teacher.

He served as the director of choral activities and music theory at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan., the director of music and arts at Valley View UMC, and the director of the Johnson County Chorus.

He has many awards and nearly 1,000 choral works to his credit, and continues to compose prolifically, and in retirement, enjoys workshops such as the one he will do in Cleveland.

Dr. Ron and Mrs. Chery Brendel are the directors of music ministries at Wesley Memorial UMC.

Andy Hunt will serve as organist, and Sandy Parkinson will serve as pianist for rehearsals and performance.
