Sixteen years later, that idea will present itself as the 15th annual Chair-ries Jubilee fundraiser for the arts on Friday, April 12, at 6 p.m. at the Museum Center at Five Points.
Nancy Casson, who has been part of the committee since its inception, noted some of those same ladies are still members of this committee.
Some have rotated off, and others have joined to keep this much-anticipated event going.
“While we were beginning to discuss arts in our schools, the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce was placing a greater emphasis on quality of life in the community,” recalled Casson, who now co-chairs the Chair-ries Jubilee Committee.
“The result was formation of the Allied Arts and Leisure Council, which later became the Allied Arts Council.”
Casson continued, “What a perfect marriage these two became — the Allied Arts Council and its subcommittee, Chair-ries Jubilee. And together they have made this annual fundraiser a premier spring event.”
To date the committee has raised, through the generosity of artists, sponsors, volunteers and attendees, over $300,000 for arts in our schools and in Cleveland and Bradley County. The monies are given to local schools through a grant application process and to fund artists in the schools.
The 2013 committee members who are working hard to bring this year’s event to reality are Casson, Co-chair Ann McCarley, Cathy Boettner, Jennifer Krecklow, Kathy Thaggard, Beth Gardner, Cindy Baker, Amy Foss, Jeanne Sawyer, June Chase, Lori Calfee, Diana Auberry, Tracey Wright, Nancy LaBine, Lisa Hoffer, Heather Ryerson, Jaime Barks and Rachel Warren.
Tickets are available now for this year’s fundraiser at the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce and The Red Ribbon for $20 in advance. Tickets are $25 at the door.
