Carolyn Smith-Massengill, 72, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday evening, April 9, 2014, in a Chattanooga health care facility.

She was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga. She attended public school in Chattanooga.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Naomi and Tommie Smith; her daughter, Carmen Smith; grandson, Tommie O’Neal Smith; and two sisters: Linda Smith and Gloria Smith.

Memories will forever be treasured by her three children: Tim (Stephanie) Massengill, Hosea Massengill and Sonya (Johnny) Smith-Leonard; her special friend, Lee Suttles; five grandchildren: Danetta Smith, Quinton Jackson, Tamika Jackson, Victor Borders and A’Donte Massengill; three sisters: Norma Jean Lindsey, Peggy Smith and Ardella Smith; stepsister: Lutena Smith-Lewis of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Tommie Smith Jr; and loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held Monday, April 14, 2014, at 1 p.m. at St. Elmo United Methodist Church Cemetery in Georgetown, with the Rev. Bishop Wesley Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1 p.m. at the St. Elmo Church.
