The Cleveland Middle School boys soccer team continued its winning trend last week with victories over Chattanooga Christian and Ocoee Middle.
On Tuesday, the Raiders avenged their early season loss to the CCS Chargers with a thrilling 2-1 victory.
The Raiders found themselves in a 1-0 hole at halftime. Cleveland battled back in the second half to score two goals and hold the Chargers scoreless. Co-captain Chris Pistrang scored first for the Raiders with a scrappy goal surrounded by heavy traffic in front of the net. Christian Gomez picked a great time to score his first goal of the season, which turned out to be the game winner, by taking the ball away from a Charger defender and tapping it smoothly past the Chargers’ keeper who had come off of his line with about 13 minutes left in the match.
The Raiders’ stingy defense did the rest by turning the Chargers’ attacks away after giving up the early goal.
Thursday, Cleveland defeated its cross-town rival Ocoee for the second time this season by a score of 5-0.
The Raiders continued to demonstrate their versatility and unselfish style of play as all five goals were scored by different players. Brian Torres, Graham Hammond, Kile Clark, Oscar Galvan, and co-captain Jonathan Collins all found the back of the net for Cleveland. Collins also added three assists in the match.
The Raiders will look to extend their five game wining streak on Monday against Athens at the McMinn Soccer Complex. The Raiders’ next home game is against the team that handed them their first loss this season, Baylor, on Thursday at 6 p.m.
