The CLEVELAND CIVITAN CLUB had a new member initiation and orientation meeting to welcome nine new members. A treat by all was the testimonial by new member, Brenda Hughes, on how the Cleveland Civitan Club impacted her daughter, Keri. Keri was a participant in the local Special Olympics and loved her ribbons. She won blue ones on a regular basis and one day announced that she wanted some of the other color ribbons. Her brothers and parents tried to explain that blue was the best, but Keri figured out that only blue was given for first place and began to slack on the events. She eventually received all the colors. After Keri passed away, Mayor and Mrs. Tom Rowland set up an annual award in Keri's honor to give to a worthy participant in the local Special Olympics. The award depicts the "ribbons of many colors" that Keri so loved. This award is ready for presentation to the 2013 recipient on May 18, beginning at 9 a.m., at the local Special Olympics at Cleveland High School.
