FORMER WALKER VALLEY Mustangs golfer Clark Melton took first place in the recent Toyota Tournament of Champions at The Golf Club of Tennessee. Melton, who now plays for Young Harris College, finished in the front of the Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour Top 24 players invited to the tournament in the 16-18 Masters Division. Melton shot a 6-under par 67-69 — 136 to capture the trophy. Gonzalo Revuelta finished second with a 70-73 — 143 and Peyton Sliger was third with a 72-72 — 144.

Cleveland Country Club will host the eighth annual CCC Men’s Amateur Golf Championship Aug. 11-12.

Amateur golfers from the Cleveland and Chattanooga area will have the opportunity to earn points for the 2012 Chattanooga TPC Championship.

The field will consist of 144 paid entrants and is open to all amateur golfers. Practice rounds will be held Aug. 7 and 10, after 1 p.m. The 36-hole tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. both days.

The field will consist of a Championship A and B flight. First Flight will be stroke play. Second Flight will be Stableford and the Senior Flight (55-over) will be stroke play. Flights will be determined after the opening round.
