Dr. John Owens, chairman, conducted this month’s bi-monthly Oct. 5 board meeting.
Three major topics were discussed. They included:
• Gene Smith, director of the municipal shelter at 360 Hill St., noted there was structural damage to the shelter building due to leaks caused by rotting wood.
Smith said he has been “in consultation with the city maintenance manager.”
He added repairing the building might hinge on whether funding is available.
• Board member Dr. Robert Taylor announced the favorable progress seems to be under way in the effort initiated by Nancy Pearl of Black Fox Pet Resort to acquire a Companion Animal Mobile Trailer (CAMET). The mobile unit could be used in the event of disaster. After the April 27 tornadoes the city/county had insufficient means to providing disaster relief for animals whose owners’ homes had been destroyed or severely damaged.
Dr. Taylor said he had talked with a state official who had a positive report. He said the cost of a trailer would be $17,500 “and FEMA could possibly cover 75 percent of this cost via grants.”
Beverley Lindsey, secretary to Cleveland City Manager Janice Casteel, also announced that Pearl has been in consultation with Cleveland City Emergency Management director Troy Spence. The outlook for obtaining a disaster relief trailer for the city and county seems to be progressing.
• Dr. Owens reported he had received names of two nominees, Irene Clark and Teresa Anderson, to fill the board position vacated by former board member Gigi Hibbard. A motion was passed to send the names to the Cleveland City Council for a decision on this appointment.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 7, l p.m., at the Municipal Building on Church Street.
