Newcomers of Cleveland will have its next general meeting on Monday at 9:45 a.m. at Broad Street Methodist Church. Guest speaker this month will be Meg Campbell from Friends of the Library. If you are new to the Cleveland area or have been here awhile you are welcome to join. This is a wonderful way to meet new friends and neighbors. Come join us! A new astronomy program called Tween Sky Watch begins on Nov. 8 at the library and will meet on the second Friday of each month for ages 6 through 12 in the Community Room. Meetings will included interactive space discussions with various activities and star gazing each quarter.

StageWorks of Cleveland is celebrating a year of theater with the second annual Masquerade Gala on Nov. 8 rom 8 to 10 p.m. at the Old Woolen Mill. Tween Movie will be “Pocahontas” on Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in the Community Room. Tweens, ages 7 to 12, should be reading “Fairy Tale Detectives” by Michael Buckley for the Tween Book Chatter Nov. 15 at 4:30 p.m. in the Children’s Activity Room.

Joe Brooks will have a book signing on his fiction novel, “Chase the Rain,” in the lobby of the library on Nov. 9 from noon to 3 p.m. Brooks, an associate pastor at Waterville Baptist Church, states that this is a travel story where the main character is on a journey.

Friends of the Library Association will host an Antique and Rare Book silent auction on Nov. 17 at the Craigmiles-Johnston House History Branch Library from 2 to 4 p.m. Come and bid on books, from biographies to essays, primers, classics and serials — almost all pre-date 1920 before ISBN numbers were assigned to books. Many are first editions. Proceeds from this sale will go to help our Teen Group enclose the Teen Zone at the library.

Calico Squares Club invites square dancers to come dance every Tuesday night from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Christian Preparatory School Cafeteria, 4995 North Lee Hwy. For more information, call Teresa at 479-7790.

The Salvation Army's Christmas Angel Tree registration Nov. 4 - 7 and Nov. 12-14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 437 Inman St. Volunteers are needed to help families register Christmas wishes. For more information, to volunteer, or to make an appointment to register, call 308-3467.

The James County Historical Society will meet today at 2:30 p.m. in the Ooltewah Methodist Church in the Sunday school addition.
