The 98-cent man For several years, the value (in chemical terms) of a human being was estimated to be 98 cents. But in 2004 with the inflation factor, the amount rose to $8.37. It includes 5 pounds of calcium, 1½ pounds of phosphorus, 5 ounces of potassium, 6 ounces of sulfur, about 1 ounce of magnesium and less than an ounce for iron, copper and iodine. I’m sure the figure has increased in the last six years. But it is still a minimal amount. I’m glad God doesn’t view us or weigh us in at a dollar amount. A commercial featuring a little girl ended with the words, “Someone must think I’m special.” Did you know you are special to God? You are loved. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:11-13). He loves you so much He made definite arrangements for your life. In fact, He wants you to have a good life. But that can only happen though His grace. You are his workmanship — created in Jesus Christ for His glory. Sometimes we make grandiose plans. We can get caught up in our ambitions and goals and forget to factor in the will of God. They may be good plans and our goals may be worthy, but even then, God may have something even more glorious for us or a better plan to reach what He has for you. Maybe the thing to do is just back up and start over. The Scottish poet Robert Burns coined the phrase: “The best laid plans of mice and men have often gone astray.” more
