Cleveland State announces Bradley County academic honor students Cleveland State Community College is pleased to recognize the talented academic students for the 2019 summer semester. Each semester, those students achieving a 4.0-grade point average are recognized by being placed on the President’s List, Cleveland State’s highest academic honor. The Vice President for Academic Affairs will recognize outstanding academic students maintaining a 3.5 to 3.99-grade point average by placing their names on the Dean’s List. Those students achieving a 3.0 to 3.49 grade point average are recognized by being placed on the Honor Roll. To qualify for these awards, a student must have completed at least 12 credit hours of college-level courses during the term. more
Eleven Lee faculty receive promotion in rank   The Lee University board of directors recently awarded promotion in rank from assistant professor to associate professor to seven faculty members, promotion from senior lecturer to assistant professor to one faculty member, and promotion in rank from lecturer to associate lecturer to three faculty members. The faculty promoted to associate professor are Drew Bledsoe, Ben Christmann, John Hearn, Bryan Poole, Delia Price, Jason Robinson and Ana Alves Shippey. Bledsoe joined Lee’s faculty in 2013 as an assistant professor of history. Prior to Lee, he taught at Rice University. His areas of expertise are the Civil War and Reconstruction, military history, and early American history. He is the author of “Citizen-Officers: The Union and Confederate Volunteer Junior Officer Corps in the American Civil War” and has written or edited numerous scholarly works on Civil War and military history. He has also been a Fellow for several historical societies, such as the United States Military Academy at West Point. Bledsoe was the recipient of this year’s Lee University Excellence in Scholarship Award. He earned his doctor of philosophy (PhD) and master of arts (MA) at Rice University and his doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee. more
Mikayla Beasley of Cleveland, has been selected as this year’s recipient of Bowater Credit Union’s annual $2,000 College Scholarship. In order to receive this scholarship, Mikayla competed against many other students who were evaluated based on grades, school activities, civic activities and an essay on the importance of credit unions in the lives of young adults. more
Christopher Brooks named to Trevecca Nazarene University's Dean's List  NASHVILLE — Christopher Brooks of Cleveland was recently named to Trevecca's Nazarene University's Dean's List for the Spring 2019 semester. Brooks is pursuing a degree in management and leadership bachelor of arts at Trevecca. To be named to the Dean's List, undergraduates must attain a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.00 grading scale. Traditional undergraduates must be enrolled full-time, while non-traditional undergraduates must have completed 12 or more hours between Jan. 1 and June 30, 2019. Trevecca Nazarene University is a Christian university in the heart of Nashville focused on preparing students for lives of leadership and service. more
  HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Reid Hobbs of Cleveland recently attended Robotics Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, home of Space Camp®, Space Camp® Robotics™, Aviation Challenge®, U.S. Cyber Camp® and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center’s Official Visitor Center. The weeklong educational program promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), while training students and with hands-on activities and missions based on teamwork, leadership and decision-making. more
